OVERVIEW
Polyengineering, Inc. and Range Design, Inc., both of Dothan, AL, have been designing training ranges since the mid 1980s. Over the years, the larger-scale digital ranges have become more and more complex. Historically, both companies completed internal LOS Analyses utilizing civil design software. While this method of analysis was very accurate, it took many weeks of manpower to complete. With design schedules shrinking and the design of the ranges continuing to become more complex, a decision was made to partner with Geographic Information Services, Inc. (GISi) of Birmingham, AL to develop an automated tool to validate LOS on training range projects.
